Background:
Armagh City Swimming Club are a long-established Club based in Armagh City. We have on average 100-120 swimming members. The Club provides swimming skills development and training opportunities for all levels of swimming up to Irish Nationals standards.
The club engages in the Swim Ulster Talent ID sessions and has several swimmers who have progressed through the Regional development pathway. In recent years the number of swimmers achieving Qualifying Times for Irish Nationals has increased and we are keen for this growth to continue.
We are seeking a Head Coach, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to lead a Coaching Team. The position holder will continue encouraging all swimmers to develop and achieve their potential in a friendly, welcoming, non-discriminatory Club environment.
Currently, the club sessions are primarily evening based in Orchard Leisure Centre, Armagh on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (senior only) and Sunday mornings (junior only). A Long Course session occurs on Sunday afternoons in South Lake, Craigavon. The Club has a dedicated voluntary Coaching Team, is supported by a hardworking Committee, and has a perfect working relationship with the Facility providers.
Key Information:
Essential – Swim Ireland Level 2 Coaching/Teaching (preferably Coaching) with a willingness to undertake training to achieve a Level 3 Coaching qualification.
Desirable – Swim Ireland Level 3 Coaching
Essential: Access NI and Safeguarding Level 1
Location: Orchard Leisure Centre Armagh & South Lakes Craigavon.
Start Date: late August/ September 2023
Working hours: To be agreed on ideally 8-10 hours of poolside coaching per week
and 6 hours of administration weekly Attendance at Key Galas identified in the Coaching Strategy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Apply the principles of the Athlete Development Support Pathway in
competitive swimming. - Develop, implement and continuously review a Long Term Strategy
- Prepare and deliver an Annual Training and Competition programme. Plan and evaluate sessions using a Mesocycle programme.
- To have overall management and responsibility and carry out appropriate administrative duties to ensure delivering appropriate coaching and ensuring all coaching is carried out in line with Swim Ireland/Ulster’s expected practices and maintaining high ethical standards.
- Forward planning of all coaching sessions including preparation of staffing rotas.
- Coach all levels and age groups within the Club and regularly review swimmers’ progress adapting training to help all swimmers achieve their potential.
- Develop swimming skills and competitive swimming strokes. Correct faults in swimming techniques and identify ways to improve performance.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, swimmers and parents
- Encourage swimmers and parents to attend competitions.
- Attend identified Galas and provide swimmers with feedback and guidance to improve.
- Attend and be actively involved in the organisation and planning when the club are hosting Aqua Sprint and PTL Galas and other Galas.
- Hold regular Coaching team meetings.
- Attend Committee meetings regularly/provide progress reports and updates.
- Comply with all rules of Swim Ireland/Ulster and Armagh City Amateur Swimming Club.
- Comply with all safeguarding and CPD Requirements of Swim Ireland/Ulster
- Reflect and evaluate your own performance and plan professional
development. - Support the Committee in enforcing Club discipline.
- Have a good working knowledge of Child Protection procedures and Safeguarding.
- Be a positive role model, creating a positive environment in which to motivate and encourage the swimmers and parents to participate in swimming
- Work with the Committee and other volunteers involved in supporting the club.
